Laura Draper is emerging artist based in Meanjin, Brisbane. Her work explores themes of identity and transience with a focus on realism using graphite. After completing a Diploma in Graphic Art she has cultivated a unique artistic voice that reflects her experiences of the world around her, linking these with the nuance of change over time and challenging the viewer to consider what is of value, constitutes beauty and should be considered important.
Finding solace and inspiration in 16 th Century Vanitas and in the intricate details of photorealist artists Cheryl Kelly and Michael Zavros, her graphite artworks featuring common subjects like skulls, roses, and iconic vintage car, capture the subtleties and details of an image, inviting viewers to see beauty in the often disregarded.
Draper seeks to challenge viewers to engage in conversations about moment and longevity, vanity and endurance, using art as a vehicle for reflection and dialogue. Her meticulous attention to detail brings her subjects to life, creating pieces that resonate on both personal and universal levels.Having exhibited her work in Brisbane and the Moreton Bay, her work is held in private collections.
